Landscaping Gravel

Landscaping gravel can be used for a variety of construction and garden projects such as flowerbeds, rock gardens, driveways, playgrounds and as a base for patios and retaining walls. A wide selection of sizes, colors and textures are available to match any decor or outdoor environment.

Using Landscaping Gravel for Your Next Garden Project

In Southern Ontario, landscaping gravel is often used to reflect our natural environment, including the vast deposits of flagstone and granite. It's very common to drive through neighborhoods in Oakville, Milton, Burlington, Etobicoke and Mississauga and see many types of gravel used in gardens and driveways. Some gardeners prefer the look of gravel and pea stones to traditional mulches such as bark chips. In fact, it's not uncommon to see gravel and bark chips used together in some gardens.

Landscaping gravel in our area traditionally comes in the following types:

  • Limestone
  • Crushed brick and concrete "sand"
  • Clear gravel
  • Crush run
  • Pea stone

Before you choose a specific type of gravel for your project, you may want to walk through your neighborhood to see what colors and textures appeal to you. Crushed stone should look like a natural extension of your garden, lawn and trees, creating the illusion of a pathway that might be found in a forest or meadow. At Van Beek's Garden Supply, we offer a wide range of options for landscaping materials including gravel.
