The need for sealing stone varies depending on its installation location and the type of stone used. Here are some general guidelines:
Granite: Due to its virtual impenetrability, granite typically does not require sealing.
Limestone: As limestone is denser in formation, it can benefit from sealing, which yields excellent results.
Sandstone: Sandstone is more porous, and sealing is generally unnecessary unless installed in an area prone to natural staining (such as leaves or flower petals) and where cooking or drinking activities occur.
Sandstone needs to breathe, and using an acrylic or solvent-based sealer can trap condensation, leading to the deposition of salt and other impurities on the stone surface. For sealing sandstone, utilize a water-based and breathable sealer like the Banas Stones Impregnator.

How do I seal/install Banas stones?
Here's a simplified guide to help you understand the process:
Excavation and Preparation: Dig the area down to undisturbed native soil and, if desired, install landscape cloth. Thoroughly compact the granular base material to establish a strong and stable foundation.
Installing the Crushed Stone: Spread the ¼" Washed Crushed Stone (HPB) evenly and ensure it is level throughout the area. Remember to create a proper slope away from building foundations and structures, with the highest point sloping towards the lowest point, to facilitate efficient drainage.
Placing the Stones: Lay the stones meticulously in their designated positions, ensuring precise placement. Secure the stones by gently tapping them into place with a rubber mallet. You have the option to choose your desired joint spacing or install the stones without any joint spacing.
Filling the Joints: After positioning and ensuring proper levelling and sloping of all the stones, proceed with filling the joints. Carefully sweep polymeric sand into the joints, and be diligent in keeping the sand within the joints to avoid potential staining of the stone caused by polymers on the surface.

How do I clean Banas stones?

You can use brushes to scrub the stone, but avoid using metal wire brushes as they can scratch the stone finish. In cases of stubborn dirt buildup, pressure washers can be effective, but exercise caution when using them on stones with fine finishes like Venetian Line, as they may leave marks.
It is crucial to avoid using acidic or solvent-based products to clean natural stone, as they can cause damage and discoloration. Natural stains, such as those from food and most beverages, will naturally fade over time.
For cooking areas, we recommend using a protective BBQ mat to prevent any potential stains or damage to the stone surface.
Can salt be used on the stone during winter months?
To maintain the integrity of your Banas products, we advise against using salt during the winter season, as it can lead to fading and damage to the stone. Instead, it is recommended to opt for using Magnesium Chloride as an alternative.
